Choosing the best cheap Computer Speaker

Most computer users consider computer speaker systems to be an important peripheral.

There is a wide variety of speaker systems available which makes choosing the right one a challenge.

A 5.1 amplified speaker system is your best bet to purchase if you are into video gaming, playing music and watching DVD movies.

This system would include an amplified sub-woofer for deep rumbling bass and satellite speakers for high-end audio.

If you intend to build your own cheap computer system, you should plan for the speaker configuration that you require. By doing this planning, you will be able to decide on the type of sound card that supports that speaker configuration.

The configurations are 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1. (.1 being the subwoofer). Hence, 2.1 would denote a system with two satellites and 1 subwoofer. 5.1 would be 5 satellites and 1 subwoofer and 7.1 would be 7 satellites and 1 subwoofer.

If after purchasing a system you are uncertain about what type of computer speaker configuration is supported, simply check the rear panel of your system to ascertain how many audio outputs are available. If there is only one output, this only supports a 2.1 (2 satellites and 1 subwoofer) system.

To achieve 6-channel (5.1) or 8-channel (7.1), you will have to upgrade your audio adapter (sound card).

If you are simply listening to audio CDs or MP3s, you can get by on a 2.1 computer speaker system. But, if you are into playing computer games and watching DVD movies, a 7.1 (8 ch) computer speaker system would be perfect for deep rumbling bass and high-end audio.

The amount of space will depend on your choice of speaker system. If space is limited, you might want to consider having the speakers wall-mounted.
